ANTIFREEZE

Antifreeze has a sweet taste and as such can be attractive to cats and also dogs.

Ethylene Glycol is the most dangerous and also the most common form of antifreeze, and very small amounts can be lethal.  As little as one teaspoon can be deadly to a cat.

Propylene Glycol is a less toxic form of antifreeze and should be used instead of Ethylene Glycol if possible.

Please follow these guidelines  to avoid exposure to antifreeze.

  • Clean up all spills immediately
  • Check your car regularly for radiator leaks
  • Always store antifreeze in tighly close containers
  • Store containers in areas that are inaccessible to your cat
  • Never allow your cat to have access to the area where you are draining your antifreeze

If you think your cat has ingested antifreeze, contact your veterinarian immediately
