How Simon's Cat was born!

While Simon Tofield was learning how to use the Flash animation program for his position at Tandem Films, his kitten, Hugh, appeared and had begun batting him for attention with his paw. One thing led to another, and a client of Tandem Films used the first clip, featuring Simon's cat, on their Web site. The animation received 60,000 hits in just two nights! and so Simon's Cat was born. Simon is an award-winning illustrator, animator and director at Tandem Films based in London. He shares his home with three cats: Hugh, Maisie and Jess.

Simon's Cat and his first Book

Apart from the title, dedication and credits, there isn't a printed word anywhere inside this book. Simon Tofield's line art drawings provide great detail into the mind of a scheming cat and, not surprisingly, the end result often turns out the same with poor Simon being made a fool of by his cat. Some of the cartoons are self-contained on one page, whilst others feature a spread of two or more pages. There are cartoons that depict a scenario which I'm sure many cat owners will be able to relate to and others are so intricate and involved, that it took me a while to work out what was going on!
